MADRA RT @Eithne_OFarrell: #TwasTheNightBeforeAdoption The amazing #Madra crew change lives every day and rely on fundraising. @AMuttleyCrew has…
* Direct from Home Adoption * Here is some of what Rhubarb’s current owner had to say about her... “Rhubarb (Previously known as Pop in Madra) is a four year old Black Labrador, Collie crossbreed. She is 60cm(2ft) in height and 21Kg(46.3lbs) in weight. Is very friendly and likes to be around humans and other dogs. She’ll lick a stranger if they let her. She adores being part of the pack and does not like being left alone. She needs to be in an active house, or if possible doggy daycare. She gets on very well with other dogs and is playful. She also loves football, I mean she loves football, a lot! Rhubarb has a high energy level and is very strong. So she would suit owners that are fit and able to handle her strength. She requires two walks a day, Morning and Evening. However due to energy levels, a dog run, where she can race freely is required at least two, three times a week. People who jog 2km, 5km, 10km and have a high fitness level will enjoy the company of this dog. An enclosed fenced in dog run, or well chosen public location, beach, designated dog park etc. that is not near a road or livestock would also suit a sprint session. It’s important not to let her off the leash when other people are around these areas as she is an extremely fast racer. Therefore early morning off leash, is most suitable for this type of exercise with no one around. However, once Rhubarb has released this high energy, 20-30mins or so. She is very relaxed for the rest of the day and will snooze or chill in the house, dog pen etc. Some negatives - Rhubarb is not suitable to be around young children or the very elderly unsupervised as she is excitable. But once held under control on a leash she is very friendly and enjoys licking peoples hands, giving paw, and sitting for treats. A family with older children/teens would be more suitable. Or a household with another dog that has a calm temperament to keep her company and chilled out. No cats for Rhubarb either!! Rhubarb has become accustomed to indoor comforts, sleeping indoors and always being around a person, people. When put outside for an hour or two, early morning/evening in her pen she can bark for attention to be let back in, unfortunately her bark is quite loud. She is also an anxious dog and does not like loud noises. Particularly the sound of hammers or other DIY machines, which she may have had a bad experience of when a young pup. The hoover is an issue too. But with a good trainer these issues could be resolved. Place her outside in pen if using the hoover. Overall, Rhubarb is a special dog to have around and will enhance the wellbeing of those around her. She is fun, loving, playful, and will keep you fit.”
