Connemara Kennels, Camus, Co. Galway | Phone: (091) 584 274 | Email: info@MADRA.ie
The Kennels are located in Camus, Connemara, in the heart of the Gaeltacht. Dogs are kept in purpose built kennels that are maintained and continually being developed to offer the best possible care for dogs in our care. Dogs are walked individually, on lead, 2-3 times daily which enables them to keep their kennels clean and helps with future housetraining. Visitors are welcome at the kennels but by appointment only.
Galway County Council rent four kennels adjacent to the MADRA premises which are used as a pound for the Connemara and Tuam region. The dog warden brings stray dogs to this section of the kennels where they are vaccinated on arrival and kept for 5 days as is the legal requirement. On completion of their 5 days the dogs are moved to the MADRA rescue section regardless of breed, size, and age where we find them a suitable home using Facebook, this website and other special events. The other local authority pound is in Loughrea, and MADRA visits this facility every 7-10 days to rescue as many of the dogs as we can manage.
