MADRA TINY.ADORABLE.ABANDONED.ALONE 4 little ones 8-9wks #beagle X (?)now safe We're looking for #fosters to help these… https://t.co/jRMDyr6rw5

MADRA is dedicated to finding new homes for unwanted, neglected, abused and abandoned dogs.

We actively search for permanent, quality homes for our dogs through advertisements in local newspapers, veterinary clinics, pet shops, and special events that provide exposure. The MADRA website and Facebook page provides current, up-to-date information about all of our dogs and our work.

We actively support, encourage and promote neutering of pet dogs as an ethical solution to the over-population and killing of dogs in Ireland. We also wish to improve the welfare of dogs through general education of the public and through education programmes for children.

MADRA’s ultimate and overall aim is that all dogs have permanent, loving homes. We wish to help create a world where no healthy, good-natured dogs are killed merely because they are considered to be a surplus number.

Donations

As with every rescue, MADRA relies heavily on donations from the general public.  With running costs of over €350,000 per annum, in 2018 we were delighted to receive a grant of €12,000 from the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine and one from the Department of Rural and Community Development for €2,600.  We also received contributions totalling €13,000 from Galway and Mayo County Councils.  The remainder of our charity income comes from the general public, our charity shops in Moycullen and Westside, and other organisations that have very kindly supported us and our fundraising efforts.

When you adopt a MADRA dog, or surrender a dog to MADRA, we ask for a donation which goes toward neutering, vaccinations, micro-chipping and other expenses such as food and non-routine veterinary care.

Due to a shortage of suitable homes in Ireland some of our dogs are re-homed in the UK and Germany. When surrendering your dog your donation fee will sometimes be used towards the transportation cost of sending these dogs to their new homes outside of Ireland. MADRA does not receive an adoption donation for the dogs that are re-homed through UK rescue centres, and in many instances we will have covered the veterinary bills for neutering, vaccinating and micro-chipping these dogs, as well as the transportation costs.
