In these very challenging times, it is so important to plan ahead for any and every eventuality. With that in mind, please ensure that your dogs & cats vaccinations are up to date and particularly the pets of your older relatives.

This will ensure that you can book the dog or cat into boarding kennels should you, or a member of your family, become unwell. We know several pet boarding facilities that will be giving very good rates to anyone who finds themselves temporarily unable to look after their four-legged buddies.

Signs of good kennels are:

1) Did the kennels smell?

The area should be easy to clean and not have a strong smell.

2) Were the kennels noisy or crowded?

The more noise, the more stress is caused.

3) Were staff/owners welcoming, friendly & polite?

The way they treat you is an indication of how they treat your pet.

4) Were you shown where your dog would be staying?

The sleeping area should be readily available to view. If they have nothing to hide, then all areas should be available to view.

5) Is the bedding/dog beds easily cleaned?

Cleaning between visitors is very important and any porous material can hold on to disease. Look for places that have raised beds. They can be cleaned, offer comfort, another level to jump on and off, a different perspective - and invite rest.

6) Do they require proof of vaccination?

Vaccination is a requirement to help prevent the spread of disease and you are protecting your pet in keeping that up to date.

Fostering a tricky is not as tricky as it may sound

A message from Tricky foster mum Gayle:

"An appeal goes up for a fosterer and you think, I could do that, then you read further and you see the word "Tricky" and you immediately think, oh no, I haven’t enough experience, I haven't enough training skills, they will be too hard to cope with.

I did...
