Thanks so much to everyone who shared our post last night for our Emergency Foster Appeal. We are working our way through the foster applications, so do bear with us.

In Ireland, collies are one of the most unwanted breeds and a breed that year after year, suffer so much from neglect, abuse and the detrimental effects from lack of socialisation because no-one cared enough about them. Every year, collies are the breed that we take in the most and are one of the hardest breeds to re-home.

Tonight we would like to introduce you to four more dogs who desperately need foster homes.

Meet Roy, Don, Nell and Jan...the latest sad "tricky" collies to come through our gates.💔

💢 Don is the bravest one. He is friendly and will happily walk on lead and likes a fuss. We think he will come around quickly enough in a foster home.

💢 Roy also walks on lead but is lacking in confidence having had limited life experiences to date. We also think he will thrive if he can find a suitable foster home.

💢 Nell is very skittish and scared. She will walk short distances on lead but can be spooked very easily.

💢 Jan is the "trickiest" of the four. She's completely overwhelmed to find herself in a busy and loud shelter. She sits in her bed all day. She will eat treats from our hands but is very fearful of the outside world. 💔

Over the years we have had many "trickies" that we have rehabilitated and they now live happily in loving homes. Sadly we are absolutely heaving with "tricky" dogs at the moment and we particularly struggle when it comes to finding foster homes for our scared, nervous collies.

These four dogs really need help to heal. We can't do it on our own, so we really need foster homes.

They will need to go to adult only foster homes in Galway city or county.

They also need very secure gardens. They will need other dogs to help them cope with living in a home environment.

They will need people who are at home for most of the day to help them become more trusting of people. We will offer guidance and support.

They need people who are patient, understanding of their fears of the world.

Rehabilitation isn't a quick fix but a few weeks in foster would truly be life-changing for these dogs. It's hugely rewarding to play a part in the transformation of sad, scared dogs into ones who trust humans, know about home comforts and can learn the simple joys of living a happy life; learning to play, learning about toys, going on adventures and feeling safe.

Please share.

Thank you,

Team MADRA 💙 🐾
