Leave a Legacy

Gift in a Will

Leaving a gift in your will to MADRA is a wonderful way of lending us your lasting support and will allow us to provide care for future generations of dogs in need of our help. You don’t have to be wealthy to leave a gift in your Will, any amount whether large or small is sure to make a difference.

If you wish to draw up a Will we recommend that you seek out help from a legal advisor who will assist you with the process of making MADRA a listed beneficiary.

If you have already made a Will and would like to leave a legacy gift to MADRA, you can make a simple addition called a codicil.

The kinds of legacy gifts that can be left to our charity in your Will:

  • A Residuary Legacy gift This is a gift of estate which remains after the satisfaction of all other beneficiaries. You may wish to donate a share of, or all of, your remaining assets which are left once family and friends have been taken care of.
  • A Pecuniary Legacy donation This is a specific sum of money that can be donated to MADRA by listing on your Will the name of our charity and the amount you wish to give.
  • A specific gift Any item that you wish to donate, such as a house, a piece of jewellery or shares in a company. It can be any item that you think will be of value to MADRA when sold

Gifts in Memory

A gift in memory is a wonderful way to remember someone you have lost. Choosing to honour a friend, relative or a beloved pet with a gift in memory can mean a great deal at a time of sadness and through supporting the work of MADRA you can be assured you are doing something in their name that will make a real difference.

By giving a gift in memory you will be helping us continue to carry out the vital work we do rescuing and re-homing hundreds of dogs in need of our help each year. A gift in memory at your time of loss could mean hope and a lifeline for one of the many unwanted dogs coming into our care.

Making a donation in memoriam is easy. If you wish to inform us of your gift simply email the amount you have donated, along with a message about your loved one if you so wish, to This email address is being protected from spambots. 2016 5k Doggy Dash

Inaugural Doggy Dash an Outstanding Success

The sun was out last Sunday for the first ever MADRA 5k Doggy Dash. Runners, joggers, walkers and dogs all turned out to support the charity at Cappagh Park in an event that brought in over €3,500.

Race organiser Katie-May North commented; “We’re so happy with how the day went on Sunday, we were absolutely blessed with the weather which brought in lots of on-the-day entries and encouraged people to stay around for a while after the race to have a coffee and a chat.”

At the prize-giving ceremony race sponsors Siobhan & Paul Lawless from The Foods of Athenry awarded prizes to the fastest runners in their age categories. The overall fastest male on the day was Brendan Larkin who completed the 5k in a speedy 21:23, the fastest female was Karen Lane who was finished in a time of 23:40. A prize was also given to Liz Ward who raised over €300 in sponsorship for MADRA.

Ms North comments “We had so much fantastic support from our fundraisers who between them raised a brilliant €1382.50 through sponsorship alone. We’re so grateful to everyone who came along; our runners, walkers, volunteers and sponsors, the kind people from the Red Cross, Supermac’s for providing bottled water for all our runners and to everyone else who was involved in making the day such a success.”

The race is set to take place again in 2017 where it is expected to be even bigger and better with a kids and dogs race on the cards. You can keep an eye out for other upcoming MADRA events on the website and MADRA Facebook page.

MADRA is a Connemara based dog rescue and adoption charity dedicated to finding new homes for dogs of all shapes, sizes and breeds. Annually, the charity rescues an average of 800 dogs from local authority pounds and dogs surrendered by the general public.
