€3,500 raised at Anonymous Art Auction

An anonymous art exhibition and auction in aid of local dog rescue charity MADRA was held last Saturday at Tribeton. The exciting event saw the works of over 30 artists anonymously exhibited then auctioned off, bringing in over €3,500 for the charity.

All the artwork for the event was donated by the artists, with both professionals and amateurs submitting work. Katie-May North who organised the event tells us “Months ago when we first put a call out for people to take part we were overwhelmed by the amazing response we had and with the enthusiasm of those wanting to get involved. It was such a fun event to organise and the willingness and generousity of the artists made the whole experience a real pleasure - we can’t thank them enough.”

An online catalogue of the paintings was published on the MADRA website prior to the event which attracted maximum bid offers from those who couldn’t attend. Over the phone bidding also added to the excitement on the night and kept everyone in the room on their toes. Over 30 paintings were auctioned off generating a fantastic €3,500 for the charity.

Ms North tells us “we were delighted with the result, everyone gave so generously on the evening and it means we will be going into December on a high knowing we have some money in the pot for our dogs. Winter is always a tough time of year for us financially, we often have big numbers coming in from the pounds by February with people failing to heed the warning that ‘a dog is for life not just for Christmas’.”

Various other MADRA fundraisers will be taking place in the lead up to Christmas with a Rock ‘n’ Roll Bingo night taking place in Monroe’s tomorrow (Wed 30th) from 8pm. Tickets for this can be purchased on the door and there will be lots of prizes on offer. MADRA will also be having the grand opening of their new shop and headquarters in Furbo on Saturday the 3rd at 11.00.

Anonymous Art Catalogue Out Now

Now available to view via the link below is the online catalogue full of wonderful paintings that will exhibited and up for auction this Saturday at Tribeton.

If you have your eye on something from the catalogue and are unable to make the event you may still be able to bag yourself a piece. This is a charity event with 100% of the proceeds going directly to helping our dogs. By making a purchase donation you will be greatly helping towards MADRA’s mission to make sure every dog is placed in a loving forever home and is not victim to the disposable culture that sees dogs killed merely because they are considered to be a surplus number.

As we’ve had some pretty valuable art donated some of the paintings will have a reserve price, most having a reserve of €50 which is the cost of a microchip and vaccination - essential procedures for all dogs coming into our care. The maximum reserve on any piece will not exceed €100 (or the cost of neutering one adult dog). Due to the anonymous nature of the auction reserves will not be declared until afterwards.

There are a also a number of special paintings not featured in the catalogue that will be on display and up for auction on Saturday including a large framed watercolour by the late Derek Biddulph and a 40x40cm ‘madra’ painting by the brilliant Clare-based artist Phillip Morrison.

This event is free admission and open to everyone so please do come along with friends and family and enjoy a glass of wine or a cocktail while perusing some brilliant art work in the boldly-designed monumental space that is Tribeton. The exhibition is open from 4pm with the auction kicking of at 6pm.

2016 5k Doggy Dash

Inaugural Doggy Dash an Outstanding Success

The sun was out last Sunday for the first ever MADRA 5k Doggy Dash. Runners, joggers, walkers and dogs all turned out to support the charity at Cappagh Park in an event that brought in over €3,500.

Race organiser Katie-May North commented; “We’re so happy with how the day went on Sunday, we were absolutely blessed with the weather which brought in lots of on-the-day entries and encouraged people to stay around for a while after the race to have a coffee and a chat.”

At the prize-giving ceremony race sponsors Siobhan & Paul Lawless from The Foods of Athenry awarded prizes to the fastest runners in their age categories. The overall fastest male on the day was Brendan Larkin who completed the 5k in a speedy 21:23, the fastest female was Karen Lane who was finished in a time of 23:40. A prize was also given to Liz Ward who raised over €300 in sponsorship for MADRA.

Ms North comments “We had so much fantastic support from our fundraisers who between them raised a brilliant €1382.50 through sponsorship alone. We’re so grateful to everyone who came along; our runners, walkers, volunteers and sponsors, the kind people from the Red Cross, Supermac’s for providing bottled water for all our runners and to everyone else who was involved in making the day such a success.”

The race is set to take place again in 2017 where it is expected to be even bigger and better with a kids and dogs race on the cards. You can keep an eye out for other upcoming MADRA events on the website www.madra.ie and MADRA Facebook page.
