MADRA work closely with the community and feel very strongly that dogs can be very beneficial to older people. We have rehomed several of our dogs to nursing homes and here is Judy who has settled in really well with the residents of Kilcolgan Nursing home.

Communion Donation to MADRA

MADRA recently received a lovely, lovely, thoughtful gift from 2nd class in Oughterard National School. From their communion money, these very generous children gave MADRA a donation of a whopping €560!!

This is one of the nicest donations we've ever got and 2 weeks ago, Tara from MADRA went out to the school to be presented with the cheque. We did a presentation about MADRA and the children got to meet Bessie, our child-loving Lab and Billy, one of our Collie puppies. Not only that but some of the children brought in their dogs, so a fun time was had by all! We in MADRA would like to give a heartfelt CHEERS! to the generous pupils of Oughterard National School!

Here are some pictures from the day:

Community Work

MADRA is a community based charity and we feel particularly strongly that older dog owners should have more support to enable them to keep their dogs at home. Dogs can provide great company for people living alone, a reason to get up and out in the morning and a sense of security which is particularly important for people living in isolated areas. We aim to provide an ambulance service to bring their dogs to and from the vets for routine check ups and neutering and also a boarding service should the person require long or short term hospitalisation. All these services are free of charge but donations are always welcome and very much needed.

Dolores got Pal from MADRA and we keep in regular contact, bringing him the vet when needed and boarding him when Dolores needs to go away. Pal is a great companion for Dolores and offers her the extra security a person living alone needs.

Education Programme

We are launching a new education programme for Primary School students. We will visit children in their classrooms and through fun, interactive workshops we aim to teach children about responsible behaviour towards animals. Workshops are designed to suit all class levels and to engage children in discussing issues surrounding dog welfare and safety around dogs.

The goal of our programme is to teach compassion and responsibility towards all animals and dogs.
